The way we GROW up

Isn't it funny how different we all grow up.
It never really occurred to me until I got married to Judd.

This last weekend we went on an [A D V E N T U R E] backpacking trip with the Rydalch cousins. The way we camped was completely different than how I camped
(the wopping 5 times) with my family.

How MY family camped:
Of course a trailer had to be provided or on a beach (Bear Lake), & it couldn't be too far away from home, sometimes it was in our home (in the basement) and even then my parents would wait 'til all of us were asleep and then they would sneak into their cozy bed. The sleeping bags we packed included lion king, little mermaid, or 101 dalmations on them. We spoiled ourselves with food, fruit, dutch oven potatoes & chicken, and of course lots and lots of smores. What is better than being together as a family? Nothing! I guess you could say it wasn't our element of expertise, but we did it and we made it fun.

How Judd's family camps:
LEGIT! A hike must be included on the adventure. A large backpack is all you need, which means limitation on clothing, food, and anything else YOU think you need to go camping. Their sleeping bags are either mummified (tight squeeze & can zip all the way up to your head) & can be used in -30 degrees..just in case you want to go camping in the FREEZING cold. Food consists of dried food that only needs water, cliff bars, fruit snacks and anything that is considered light so that in the end the bag isn't too heavy. [Judd made sure we packed extremely light on the food & we almost starved.. just kidding. We enjoyed top ramen which by the way we were both excited for
(hadn't had it since I was a kid).]

Even though we learned how to camp differently (AS YOU CAN SEE) it'll be so fun to make our own traditions and how we do things. We do have one thing in common and that is that we both LOVE being with family and that is the most important thing.

This campout we did with the cousins was kind of a last hoorah! Two of our cousins (the Lewis') are moving to GONZAGA (for law school) in about a week, so we wanted to do something really fun before they left. What better thing to do than be up in the mountains without any distractions.
We had a blast & it definitely wasn't long enough!

[WE camped out at ISLAND LAKE]

We HIKED/BACKPACKED, set up camp in the dark, started a fire in the dark (finding wood when it's pitch black is quite tricky), each couple slept in their own TENT (p.s. ours was TINY), fished, hammock relaxation, cliff jumped, played games [ I took second- I hate when that happens] , chopped down a dead tree with a small hatchet, took lots of pictures, and of course talked and enjoyed each others company. We are so excited for JD & Kelsey and their new adventure to come, but we will definitely miss them.

We have both been blessed with amazing cousins (FAMILY) that have turned out to be our best friends. We love all of them and are so grateful for them.
